Engagement

For more than 20 years I have volunteered for environmental and climate protection, for education, and for an economy that takes responsibility.

World Cleanup Day Germany

In 2017, I co-founded the World Cleanup Day Germany initiative. In 2018 we established the non-profit Let’s Do It! Germany e. V., whose board I have chaired ever since. Our vision: to live in a clean, healthy world free of plastic waste.

World Cleanup Day is a bottom-up civic movement open to everyone – citizens, companies, schools, municipalities, and initiatives. Our goal is to activate at least 5 percent of people and to raise awareness of plastic pollution among decision-makers in business and politics. Since 2024, World Cleanup Day has been an international day recognized by the United Nations.

Our work was honored with the UN SDG Award 2023.

World Cleanup goes School

With “World Cleanup goes School” we develop and continuously evaluate educational projects together with teachers and environmental experts. The Müllfibel (waste primer) is taught in schools with workshops and classroom materials, so children and young people can discover an eco-friendly lifestyle in a playful way.

Europe

World Cleanup Day kick-off at the European Parliament in Brussels
World Cleanup Day campaign kick-off in Brussels

From 2022 to 2024 I served as European Director of World Cleanup Day. The European campaign enjoyed support at the highest political level: in 2022 the kick-off took place at the European House in Berlin, and in September 2022 the WCD flag was handed over in Brussels to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. At the 2023 campaign launch in Brussels we also presented her with the political positions of the Let’s Do It World movement.

Our demands: stricter environmental laws with active civil society participation, more education for sustainability, collaboration for a circular economy, significantly less plastic consumption, producer responsibility for plastic waste, transparency about the risks of plastics, and a global legal framework to tackle the plastic crisis.

EU Climate Pact Ambassador

Since 2021 I have been an EU Climate Pact Ambassador under the European Green Deal. In this role I lead by example in climate and environmental action, build bridges between civil society, business, and the European Commission, encourage authorities, schools, organizations, and companies to make ambitious commitments, and share science-based knowledge on climate change – especially in accessible ways for disadvantaged communities.
